UI Honored with 16th Consecutive Tree Campus Higher Education Award

The Landscape Services tree crew was recently honored with a 2024 Tree Campus Higher Education Award. The UI was the first college in Iowa to win the award in 2009 and is one of only eight Tree Campus Higher Education award winners in Iowa. In recognition of a $5 million leadership gift from Mary Lee Nagle Duda (61BA) of Dallas, and pending approval from the Iowa Board of Regents, the University of Iowa Department of Intercollegiate Athletics new facility will be named the Nagle-Duda Gymnastics & Spirit Squads Training Center. IOWA CITY, Iowa — A new practice home for the University of Iowa women’s gymnastics and spirit squads will open in early 2025 thanks to a generous donor and passionate Hawkeye fan. In recognition of a $5 million leadership gift from Mary Lee Nagle Duda (61BA) of Dallas, and pending approval from the Iowa Board of Regents, the University of Iowa Department of Intercollegiate Athletics new facility will be named the Nagle-Duda Gymnastics & Spirit Squads Training Center.

Iowa City takes first steps in $30 million Burlington Street Bridge replacement project

The city of Iowa City has begun planning to replace the Burlington Street bridge, which sees heavy traffic each day and serves as a connection between the east and west sides of the UI campus. UI seeks approval to purchase remaining space in Old Capitol Town Center

The University of Iowa is requesting approval from the Iowa Board of Regents to acquire the remaining 45% of the Old Capitol Town Center in downtown Iowa City, which it currently partially owns at 55%. The board is set to review this proposal during its November meeting, with the university notifying the mall’s ownership group of its intention to purchase the rest of the property for $20.6 million, contingent upon board approval.
