University of Iowa opens new training center for men’s and women’s wrestling programs

After years of planning, fundraising, and development, the University of Iowa wrestling programs have a new training center that complements their world-class competition home at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Coaches, athletes, administrators, fans, and donors will celebrate the dedication of the Goschke Family Wrestling Training Center on May 30. The 38,000-square-foot facility is the new training home of the Iowa men’s and women’s wrestling programs. The wrestling room on the south end of the building is connected by an underground tunnel to Carver-Hawkeye Arena, recognized as one of the best wrestling venues in the world.

CAMBUS service alert: impacts to Newton Road beginning in May 2024

Beginning late May 2024, a construction project on Newton Road will impact CAMBUS routes and stops. The project is expected to last through the end of 2024. The project includes constructing a roundabout south of the VA Hospital and a new expanded bus loop with rider amenities. The start date of the project and route adjustments will be updated once confirmed.

Twenty-three new Herky statues parade across campus

Twenty-three new Herky statues have been placed across campus as part of the 2024 rendition of Herky on Parade. The statues were designed by artists, and each embodies a special theme. This is the third time the Herky on Parade public art project has taken place. Previously, Herky statues were installed in 2004 and 2014. There are 100 total Herky statues installed as part of the parade. FM Landscape Services coordinated with the Herky on Parade committee and installed the concrete bases for the campus statues.

How University of Iowa’s tree canopy helps the environment

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Many people around Eastern Iowa celebrated Earth Day Monday, whether that be cleaning up parks or simply taking time to learn more about what people can do to help the environment. Between the derecho destroying millions of trees in 2020 and the emerald ash borer beetle taking out even more, arborists have emphasized the importance of not only taking care of the trees that survived but also working to restore what we’ve lost. And that’s what the University of Iowa arborist works on every day.
