UI Utilities employees transition to ENGIE

Nearly all University of Iowa utilities system employees accepted an offer from ENGIE North America as part of the university’s 50-year public-private partnership (P3). The partnership will allow the university to invest $15 million per fiscal year via grants dedicated to supporting the UI’s strategic plan and core missions of teaching, research, and scholarship.

The University of Iowa cut the ceremonial ribbon at its new Psychological and Brain Sciences building Jan. 24, as students, faculty, and staff within the department transition out of its previous home in 120-year-old Seashore Hall. As the spring semester has begun, UI Psychological and Brain Sciences Department Chair Mark Blumberg said he has watched with pleasure while students, faculty, and staff discover the building and what it has to offer.

Board of Regents approves public-private partnership for UI utility system

The University of Iowa has received approval from the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, to enter into a 50-year partnership involving its utility system with ENGIE North America and Meridiam. For years, the European Larch on the University of Iowa Pentacrest provided shade and a place for children to play on its unique low-hanging branches. When winds from a thunderstorm claimed the beloved tree in September, many were upset by the loss. Although it can never be replaced, a new European Larch is taking the place of where the tree once stood.

Remembering the European larch

Iowa City residents and tree enthusiasts mourned the loss of a large European larch tree, located on the Pentacrest lawn, after wind from severe storms passed through the area late Monday night. Including the European larch, about three to five trees were lost in the storm and there were lots of trees that sustained limb loss overnight Monday.
