  • Served as director of UI's Speech Clinic (1943) and served as chief administrative officer of the Iowa Program in Speech Pathology (1947)
  • Chaired the UI Council on Speech Pathology and Audiology (1951)
  • Forerunner of the department of Speech Pathology and Audiology
  • Edited the Iowa Literary Magazine (1928)
  • Became the Louis W. Hill Research Professor (1963)

* Please note the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Iowa, one of the oldest and largest programs of its kind, has moved into the new Health Sciences Academic Building (HSAB) at 302 S. Grand Avenue.  The department trains students and serves clients with speech, language, and hearing disorders. The Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic is now located on the southeast side of HSAB, near Melrose Clinic. 

The Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Center previously housed the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
