The Iowa Memorial Union and student services are undergoing a series of changes as the $81.4 million renovation nears the end of its first phase. Construction began in summer 2025 and is expected to be completed in fall 2027, when the building will return to full use.
Phase one includes a new space for students to decompress, increased food service options and improved connections throughout the building. University Counseling Services will move to the second floor, while new leadership and engagement areas and conference rooms will provide additional space for student organizations.
UI Student Health is also preparing to leave its current Westlawn location. In fall 2027, the service will have a new home on the third floor of the IMU. The move is focused on making health and well-being services more accessible and creating a more coordinated experience for students. Student Health’s current medical services will continue to be offered after the relocation.
