Just as education around the world continues to evolve and innovate, so do the campuses that house the brightest future artists, scholars, and financiers. A new 126,000-square-foot building has been added to the University of Iowa's campus by AD100 architect Steven Holl. The Visual Arts Building, completed in October 2016, resembles a series of boxes, stacked haphazardly on top of one another three deep, and within each, cubelike windows scattered about. Inside its walls are multiple layers of light-filled floors and rooms where art students can collaborate. Steven Holl Architects has a busy few years lined up in the academic realm. The firm is set to complete the Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University in late 2017, as well as the Glassell School of Art and a campus expansion at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston in 2018.
