Business & Financial Services is responsible for administrative support of all units of Facilities Management with specific responsibilities for budgeting, accounting, human resources, information technology, and maintenance stores.
Business and Financial Services is comprised of the following support units.
Departments
Accounting is responsible for daily operational accounting functions, financial reporting, monthly accounting entries, operational labor rate development, utility rate development and billings, budget development and forecasting, purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, travel, procurement cards, uniform purchases and general oversight of accounting policies and procedures.
Capital Accounting is responsible for providing real time project updates and reconciliations via BuildUI for all major capital projects (projects over $100,000). This includes all of the budget, funding, contract, purchase order, and expense tracking to help ensure each project is accurate and up to date, as well as various support projects upon need or request.
Facilities Information Services (FIS) is responsible for the data stewardship of all space, infrastructure, and physical development of the university’s entire campus. In partnership with university administration and the University Space Committee, it provides recommendations to improve space management and utilization for academic, research and administrative units.
FM@YourService triages emergency maintenance issues for the campus and manages customer work orders and customer request service requests for other FM units like Building & Landscape Services, Design & Construction, and Utilities.
Finance & Operations Human Resources serves as a resource for all Facilities Management employees on University and department-specific HR policies, processes, programs, and transactions to support a humane and supportive work environment consistent with Facilities Management's mission and core values.
Information Technology provides service and support to nearly 700 internal users, many external customers, and over 500 FM computers that are housed in almost every building on the University of Iowa's main campus, as well as the Oakdale campus. The office's numerous services provide dedicated and reliable support to the community of FM employees, students and customers.
Maintenance Stores stocks maintenance and repair items including electrical, plumbing, hardware, carpentry, refrigeration, key supplies, sheet metal, and tools. maintenance Stores also include a dispatch service transporting people as well as maintenance supplies and blueprints throughout campus.

Utility Accounting is responsible for the financial management of the UI Utility Enterprise accounts and the commodities they provide to the campus. Utility Accounting handles daily utility accounting functions, financial reporting, monthly utility accounting entries, commodity rate development, monthly utility billings, budget development and forecasting, purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general oversight of utility financial policies and procedures.
